Westview Viewpoint Newsletter

November 2009

Welcome to the 2009 Fall edition of "Viewpoint". Our design friends in the Pacific Northwest have been presented with Westview's VuMax, the new structural clad-wood curtain wall. This month's newsletter goes to firms that design both commercial and residential projects. We are featuring several examples of VuMax, which include a picture, an isometric, and a few details. Please respond if we can elaborate on any portion of what you see because we think you will see many applications for VuMax.

VuMax Wall A
This was the first true VuMax, a structural glazed wall with our glue-laminated beam structure and three-part glazing system. It is in Salem, Oregon and was a national award winner for the 2005 contest organized by the National Sunroom Association. It truly maximized the view, facing South over the Ankeny Refuge.

VuMax Wall B
Similar to the first gable unit this one wraps a steel column at the center and again maximizes viewing over the same area in South Salem. Engineering for these applications involves direct wind load and vertical load, while lateral load is picked up by adjacent materials.

VuMax Wall C
This curved VuMax wall is near Medford, Oregon. The home had been framed and windows were to be ordered, but the homeowner determined his view of the mountain was severely obstructed by the framing and would be even more so by the window frames. The builder sought out Westview and we were able to preserve the openness they were after.

VuMax Wall D
This window assembly is one of many on this new abbey addition near Newberg, Oregon. It carries the feel of interior wood desired by the architect and clients, as well as the low maintenance aluminum exterior. This project will show up again in future months with monumental skylights, other wall units, and the special edition for church facilities.

VuMax Wall E
The window wall here represents the classic reason that VuMax was designed, engineered, and filed for as patent-low obstruction viewing. The new home is located on the northern Oregon coast, directly on the Pacific Ocean . It has a long-term paint via PPG, heavy glass to carry up to 150 MPH winds without significant deflection, and special consideration for water penetration. There are several other wall assemblies, integrating clad wood windows and doors, and an integrated skylight unit.

Thank you for reviewing these VuMax walls and associated details. Please feel free to call or e-mail for
further elaboration on these units, or perhaps ones you are considering. Westview Products, Inc,
